To preserve the strict succession of the Vongola Family Bosses and Guardians, the Vongola Rings were divided into half and split between the Outside Advisor and the current Family Boss. But, to do this, the power of the Rings' Flames had to be sacrificed to compensate this division, which meant that the normal Vongola Rings had less power than its Tri-ni-set counterparts.
The Original Vongola Rings release the true power of the Rings, giving the user a huge boost in power. The release of this power is such that even 50% of the Original Rings' power is more than the full power of the normal Rings.
The only person capable of releasing the true power of the Vongola Rings is the founder of the Family, Giotto. He sealed the power of the rings before retiring because he didn't trust what the Vongola would become.
The Original Vongola Rings had been sealed away for eight out of the ten generations of the Vongola Family. The only two generations that had used this power are the First Generation Vongola Family and the Tenth Generation Vongola Family. Giotto entrusted Tsuna and his Guardians with the Vongola Rings' True Form, saying that he believed that Tsuna and his Guardians will understand the true meaning of both the Ring and his will.
