Character outline

Hibari as he currently appears

Kyoya Hibari is the leader of the Discipline Committee of Prefects, who all are delinquents loyal to Hibari. Like his subordinates, he too is a violent delinquent who uses his status to harass other students. However, he prefers to be alone and cares little for his subordinates. Hibari is very proud of his school, and is apparently the only person who likes their school's alma mater, even using it as his ring tone. In the Kokuyo Arc, he adopted one of the Kokuyo assassin Birds' bird . The bird (subsequently nicknamed "Hibird" due to its connection to Hibari) becomes attached to Hibari. Reborn piqued Hibari's curiosity early on in the series, and Hibari considers him a worthy opponent, having a strong urge to fight him. His catchphrase is "I'll bite you to death" (kamikorrosu), which he often says before a fight. He also has a weakness to sakura/cherry blossoms, due to Dr. Shamal transferring an incurable disease to him earlier in the manga.

Plot Overview

Kokuyo Arc

During the Kokuyo Arc, Hibari is presumably the number 1 on the target list (as Futa refused to make a new one, which would have made Tsuna #1). Making him Chikusa's target (Chikusa was after the odd number and Ken the evens). However, he went after Mukuro alone, wanting to remove the "King of Monkeys" which threaten his position as the in-charge of the town. Mukuro takes advantage of Hibari's "cherryitis" by making an illusion of cherry blossoms, and subsequently beats Hibari to a pulp. Hibari then remains unseen until Gokudera, fighting a losing battle against Ken and Chikusa, releases him from captivity. He subsequently deafeats both and carries Gokudera to where Tsuna is fighting Mukuro. He receives medicine from Gokudera that cured his cherryitis and allowed him to battle with Mukuro. It is revealed that he was actually fighting purely on instinct and had passed out shortly after overpowering Mukuro. His body is in such bad shape that his body is not viable for Mukuro's Possession Shot.

Varia Arc

Cloud Ring and the Vongola Coat of Arms

During the Varia arc, he is made Tsuna's Cloud Guardian (as Reborn notes he fits the bill perfectly), Dino is appointed his home tutor but they spend the time fighting in multiple environments in order to increase Hibari's experience and potential. He only returns after the Storm Ring battle and immediately attempts to bite everyone to death for the amount of damage caused to the school, Reborn however placates him by offering him a chance for a rematch with Mukuro. He battles Gola Mosca for the ring, easily wiping him out with one tonfa strike. After which, he stated that he would only feel like going home when he had beaten the boss of Varia. He then attempts to do battle with Xanxus, but as Belphegor notes, if Xanxus were to raise a hand against Tsuna's family(which has officially won with a 4-3 record)it will be seen as an act of rebellion and all of then will be executed. It was all a ploy on Xanxus' part, as he wanted Hibari to stall long enough for Gola Mosca to once again become active, sending him on a rampage. Which forces Tsuna to arrive and protect his friends from the Gola Mosca. Ultimately, Hibari was a pawn in order for Xanxus to get a Sky Battle. During the Sky battle he manages to resist the Death Hitter venom, in which the venom was revealed that it could even subdue a wild elephant, and rescues Gokudera and Yamamoto, before taking his leave.

Future Arc

Hibari (26 yrs old)

In the future, Hibari is said to be the strongest Vongola Guardian. He appears to save Hayato and Takeshi and defeat Gamma. After their reunion, he agrees to train Tsuna. Hibari is also the reason Tsuna learn of X Burner and its weakpoints. Hibari was previously been traveling around the world searching for information concerning the box weapons by starting "The Foundation". Hibari defended the hideout against the Millefiore raid by trapping a majority of their troops. Later he infiltrates the Melone base where he fought Genkishi. As Genkishi was about to land the final blow, Hibari was replaced by his younger self. It seemed the adult Hibari was aware this was about to happen. Hibari, instructed by Kusakabe, then activated his ring flames and opens his box weapon. His hedgehog, overloaded with his flame which made it drunk, went into shock when it attacked his master and expanded its spikes at great speed, separating the two fighters. Later it was revealed that Irie Shoichi, future Tsuna, and Future Hibari planned together secretly to fight against the Millefore Family and that was one of the reason he knew about the raiding.

Choice

Hibari was not present to receive a full battle uniform, but did show up along with Dino. He, on Tsuna's command, released his Vongola Box Animal - a hedgehog with bigger, but less numerous spikes as it appears. For now, it is unknown where he has been during all the training.

Abilities

According to Fūta's ranking list of the strongest students of Namimori High, Hibari is the number one strongest student in his school (it could be disputed that Tsuna is stronger when in is HDW mode or DW mode), a fierce and well trained fighter who has an almost insatiable bloodlust for a worthy opponent. As his main weapon, he uses a pair of tonfa. Hibari's tonfa have also been shown to have hidden compartments containing other weapons. In the future, he has a box weapon which contains another pair of tonfa which emit Dying Will Flames.

In the future, Hibari has become adept at using rings. His flame has become so intense that even without the Cloud Vongola ring, he is capable of great feats of strength. However, he shatters normal rings when he uses them. The younger Hibari is also capable of emitting a massive Dying Will flame with the Vongola Ring though he had only recently arrived in the future. This was said to emerge when Hibari was feeling angry with others for disrupting him. It is revealed that Dino taught him how to emit the flames. Hibari has been shown to have more knowledge than most concerning the boxes and uses them at a high proficiency.

Cloud Tonfas -

Hibari's Cloud Tonfa

Hibari first uses these to engage in direct combat with Gamma.

Cloud Hedgehog - When used, a hedgehog is shot towards the target. Due to the Cloud's ability, propagation, the hedgehog can become bigger when it takes in Dying Will Flames.

Needle Sphere Form - His hedgehog forms a huge airtight sphere that encloses his target. The target is then suffocated.
Needle Sphere Form, Reversed - He creates a big airtight space where only people are allowed inside. Use of Box Weapons are restricted, leaving Hibari and his opponent to a direct fight.
