Koyo Aoba is a member of Shimon Famiglia. He previously attended Shimon Middle School, but he and his family transfered to Namimori after an earthquake hit their area. They chose Namimori because it is relatively earthquake free and they are invited to the Vongola Decimo's Inheritance Ceremony. Koyo uses boxing gloves as his weapon, just like Ryohei. Both he and Ryohei also have the same temper, as seen when they quickly get angry and neither of them want to stop the fight. He is sensitive over his contradictory name (Aoba meaning green leaves and Koyo meaning red leaves). He is firm in his belief that, no matter what his first and last name mean, they are still the same leaves.
Inheritance Ceremony Arc
He first appeared with Ryohei when they were stuck on answering difficult questions. He is later seen at the school's rooftop with the other transfer students along with Tsuna's Guardians, watching Hibari fight Adelheid. Koyo even encourages Adelheid to "Defeat the Nami student." He appears to be surprised that Hibari did not waver at Adhelheid's beautiful underwear showing attack. Koyo also shocked along with Rauji that Hibari's attack pushed Adelheid back across the rooftop. But, fortunately, Tsuna (who is pushed by Reborn) stops the fight by coming between Hibari's and Adelheid's attack. Koyo is then surprised along with Rauji and Enma that Reborn could talk fluently. Reborn says that the Shimon are the Vongola's guests for the Inheritance Ceremony. Reborn even states that the Shimon Famiglia has been their ally even before the time of Primo. But, even he did not until recently, because the Shimon Family has become weaker over the times. Koyo is riled up that Reborn speaks the truth so plainly and asks if Reborn has never heard of sugar-coating his words, which Reborn says he has not. Koyo shouted that they came all the way to see them.
Later, Koyo is seen with other Shimon Family Members and Vongola Guardians in a restaurant, discussing about a group to protect Tsuna in each area. Gokudera creates a plan that Koyo was grouped with Adelheid, Ryohei and Hibari to patrol Namimori Middle School's thrid year building to protect Tsuna. Koyo is against this and almost start a fight, since he believes that the Shimon Family should be treated has equals. But Adelheid can easily make him silent with just one word, this makes Gokudera think that she was the leader of Shimon Famiglia. Before arrangements could be made, Adelheid comments that she would like to talk with other members who aren't here and give it some time to think. At the Shimon Family hideout, when Adelheid agrees with the idea of protecting the Vongola, Julie states that he is not feeling well so he well not help, Koyo starts another argument and says that he has only chased women and gambled. Koyo also starts to tease Enma for being weak and not trying to win a fight. Adelheid asks Enma to show her the bulky pendant that he has hidden under his shirt, saying that the pendant is proof that he has inherited the title as the next Boss of the Shimon Famiglia.
The Shimon Family agreed to guard Tsuna and the 1st day was Koyo's turn. Koyo and Ryohei compete to see who is a better bodyguard. When no assassins arrived, Reborn made them competed with a set of puzzles on a plate made of extra hard ceramic as they cannot have a fighting match. Reborn stated that the competition would have to be postponed if the puzzles were to break and observed Tsuna's room with a camera. The puzzles were too difficult for either of them, thus they tried to break it. They were unable to break the plate themselves. Therefore, Koyo holds the plate, while Ryohei broke it by using Maximum Cannon, which Koya was capable of receiving. Thus, Reborn concluded that the Shimon Family were not weak at all.

- Koyo can be translated as Red Leaves while Aoba means Green Leaves.
- Just like Ryohei, he loves Boxing and calls himself the "Hope of the Boxing World."
- In the Reborn! Fandom, he is known as 54.
- His catchphrase is "In the end!"
- Like Julie, he also seems to be womanizer since he acts like a "gentleman" to Nana.
