Dying Will Mode is a state that a person undergoes when shot with a Dying Will Bullet or when swallowing a Dying Will Pill. It is the first type of Dying Will Mode that Tsunayoshi Sawada uses in the series.

After the Varia Arc, Dying Will Mode stops making excessive appearances, as Tsuna and other users switch to Hyper Dying Will Mode.

Description

Detailed DWM

When someone enters Dying Will Mode, it uses the pressure a person faces during a crisis to externally remove their body limiters, and increase their strength and need to fulfill their Dying Will.

Entering Dying Will Mode changes ones personality depending on the user. When Tsuna enters Dying Will Mode, he becomes very hyperactive and loud, and gains renewed confidence in himself, which is very similar to the behavior of Ryohei Sasagawa.

While in this mode, the user feel as if their body was breaking, yet they were prepared to take on anything, as well as be unafraid of their body being destroyed.

The effects of Dying Will Mode will only last 4-5 minutes, then the user returns to normal. A notable side-effect is their clothes rip off, down to their undergarments.

The Dying Will Flame also appears on their head. Reborn also exhibits that firing the Dying Will Bullet into different parts of the body results in different effects such as foot propellers, huge fists, etc.

When Tsuna trained during the Varia Arc, he learned how to stay in Dying Will Mode for over five minutes, which is required for Hyper Dying Will Mode and later the Zero Point Breakthrough: First Edition.

Users and Usages

Tsunayoshi Sawada

The first and most well-known user of the Dying Will Mode user in the series.

Tsuna first attained this form after Reborn shot him with a Dying Will Bullet, in order for him to confess his true feelings to Kyoko Sasagawa and later defeat Kensuke Mochida in a kendo match. During the Daily Life Arc, Reborn often made Tsuna enter Dying Will Mode as a way to train the boy and help him solve his problems and defeat enemies. The actions Tsuna performed in this form earned him the attention and praise of his classmates. This caused him to become more confident and befriend many of his classmates

Ryohei Sasagawa

During the Daily Life Arc, Reborn forces Tsuna to fight in a boxing match with Ryohei Sasagawa. Reborn shoots Ryohei with the Dying Will Bullet to make the fight fair. Tsuna is surprised to see that the bullet has no effect on Ryohei as he always lives his life to the limit. Reborn is impressed with Ryohei and shoots Tsuna who is reborn with the dying will to reject the offer to join the boxing club. Tsuna manages to defeat Ryohei rather easily and Reborn invites Ryohei to the family. Ryohei is never shown using the form again afterwards.

Kyoko Sasagawa

The sister of Ryohei Sasagawa and the first known female in the series to enter Dying Will Mode. Kyoko only enters this form twice in the manga.

In Chapter 6, Kyoko vists the Sawada residence, so Reborn can pay her back for buying his coffee. Tsuna’s mother, Nana Sawada then arrives and is surprised to see Kyoko with Tsuna. Misinterpreting their relationship, Nana asks her if it's hard to have her no-good son as a boyfriend and leaves before Kyoko can explain herself. As Tsuna apologizes to Kyoko, Reborn suggests that they play Russian roulette. Tsuna initially declines, thinking that they will be using real bullets, but agrees when Reborn shows them the party bullet. Kyoko volunteers to be first and shots herself with the Dying Will Bullet that Reborn accidentally loaded. As Tsuna hurries to her side, Kyoko is reborn and heads downstairs to confront Nana while Tsuna and Reborn follows with her clothes. While accidentally destroying much the furniture, Kyoko orders Nana to retract what she said earlier but ends up choking her, leaving Reborn with no choice but to use his Reverse 1 Ton hammer which forces the bullet to come out. Reborn explains to Tsuna the effects of the hammer and tells him that she would think of what happened as a dream. Later at her house, Kyoko is thinking of her ‘’dream’’ and it’s revealed that she tried to retract Nana saying Tsuna was a no-good son.

Trivia

  • Despite Kyoko Sasagawa and Haru Miura having both entered Dying Will Mode, neither of their Flame-attributes were ever referred to in the manga.
